Published here on August 31st 2005 Interim Decent Homes Target MissedThe Government has admitted to missing its target for reducing by 1/3 the number of social housing properties which fail the Standard by 2004. This interim target required the number of non-decent homes to fall by 533,300 by April 2004 and the ODPM annual report revealed that it had in fact only achieved a reduction of 210,000 (13%) by April 2003 and 350,000 (22%) by April 2004. The slippage occurred after revisions in the English House Condition Survey data increased the number of non-decent homes as in 2001. The ODPM has subsequently set further milestones to work towards between now and 2010. They aim to see a reduction in non-decent homes of 45-50% by 2006 and 65-70% by 2008.
